Distance Traveled Calculator
Distance Traveled Calculator – Planned Feature in TimeTrack Pro
Automatically estimate total distance walked, cycled, driven, or traveled from your timeline — useful for fitness, mileage claims, curiosity, or budgeting — all processed offline on your device.
1. How Distance Will Be Calculated
Using Haversine formula (standard for lat/long points):
- Connect consecutive timeline points
- Sum straight-line distances (ignores curves but good approximation)
- Filter by activity (e.g. only "in vehicle" or "on bicycle")
- Account for accuracy radius → ignore tiny jumps
2. Planned Interface & Usage
- Import timeline files
- Go to Stats → Distance Calculator (new section)
- Select date range (day/week/month/year)
- Choose filter (all movement, walking only, driving only)
- App calculates locally → shows total km/miles + breakdown
- Copy result or export CSV (date, segment distance, total)
3. Accuracy & Limitations
- Good for: Daily totals, monthly mileage, fitness tracking
- Underestimates curves — real road distance ~10–20% higher
- Better with dense points — frequent logging = more accurate
- Battery-saving mode — still usable (larger jumps, ~15% error)
4. Practical Use Cases
- Tax mileage deduction: Annual km for self-employed
- Fitness goals: Weekly walking/cycling distance
- Commute cost: Fuel estimate from work trips
- Travel bragging: "I walked 1,200 km this year"
- Carbon footprint: Rough personal travel impact
5. Privacy & Battery Benefits
- No GPS used by app — only processes existing export
- No data sent — full offline calculation
- Encryption option for saved stats
- Instant delete after use
6. Manual Alternative Until Feature Arrives
- Copy times between distant points
- Use online map tool (privately) to measure segments
- Sum manually in spreadsheet
- Focus on key trips for estimates
Coming soon: Accurate, private distance totals from your own data — no apps, no tracking, no subscriptions.
